Usage Of A/An – Indefinite Articles In Hindi With Examples
- Indefinite Singular Noun | अनिश्चित एकवचन संज्ञा
- A/An is used before an indefinite singular noun. (‘The’ is used before the noun when it is definite). For this reason, A/An is called an indefinite article.
A/An का प्रयोग अनिश्चित एकवचन संज्ञा के पूर्व किया जाता है। (निश्चित होने पर नाउन के पूर्व ‘The’ का प्रयोग किया जाता है।) इसी कारण से A/An को अनिश्चित article कहा जाता है।
EXAMPLES- आर्टिकल का प्रयोग समझे
- I have a purse.
- He sang a song.
- Ram is a boy.
- This is an inkpot.
- Purse, song, boy, and ink-pot. All are singular countable nouns. Therefore we used indefinite articles(A/An) along with them.
Purse, song, boy, and ink-pot. सभी एकवचन संज्ञा हैं। इसलिए हमने उनके साथ अनिश्चित Article (A/An) का इस्तेमाल किया।
First Sound Of Pronunciation | शब्द के उच्चारण के प्रथम ध्वनि
A, E, I, O, U, are considered vowels in the English language. Except for vowels, all other words are called consonants. Many words can start with these vowels, but the main thing is that if the first sound of pronunciation of those words is consonant then ‘A’ will be used. If that sound is a vowel, then ‘An’ will be used.
अंग्रेजी भाषा में A, E, I, O, U, को स्वर माना गया है। स्वर को छोड़कर बाकी सभी व्यंजन (Consonant) कहलाते है। कई शब्द इन Vowels से शुरू तो हो सकते हैं, लेकिन मुख्य बात यह है कि यदि उन शब्दों की प्रथम ध्वनि व्यंजन है तो ‘A’ का प्रयोग होगा। यदि वह ध्वनि स्वर है तो ‘An’ का प्रयोग होगा।
शब्द के उच्चारण के प्रथम ध्वनि
- In the Hindi alphabet, अ, आ, इ, ई, उ, ऊ, ऋ, ए, ऐ, ओ, औ etc. are considered vowels. There are 16 vowels in the Hindi language while 5 vowels are considered in the English language.
- हिंदी वर्णमाला में अ, आ, इ, ई, उ, ऊ, ऋ, ए, ऐ, ओ, औ आदि स्वर माने जाते हैं। हिंदी भाषा में 16 स्वर होते है जबकि अंग्रेजी भाषा में 5 स्वर माने गए है।

First sound of pronunciation प्रथम ध्वनि – ‘व‘ व्यंजन है। इसीलिए ‘A’ का प्रयोग किया गया है। - A university. (यूनिवर्सिटी)
First sound of pronunciation प्रथम ध्वनि – ‘यू‘ व्यंजन है। इसीलिए ‘A’ का प्रयोग किया गया है। - An honest. (ऑनेस्ट)
First sound of pronunciation प्रथम ध्वनि – ‘आ‘ स्वर है। इसीलिए ‘An’ का प्रयोग किया गया है। - An Umbrella (अंब्रेला)
First sound of pronunciation प्रथम ध्वनि – ‘अ‘ स्वर है। इसीलिए ‘An’ का प्रयोग किया गया है।
- What is the first letter of the word? It is not important, what actually is important, the first sound of its pronunciation.
शब्द का प्रथम letter क्या है? यह महत्वपूर्ण नहीं है, महत्वपूर्ण है, उसके उच्चारण की प्रथम ध्वनि।
EXAMPLE- आर्टिकल का प्रयोग समझे
- A university. (यूनिवर्सिटी)
First sound of pronunciation प्रथम ध्वनि – ‘यू‘ व्यंजन है। इसीलिए ‘A’ का प्रयोग किया गया है।
- In the above sentence, the first letter is vowel but the first sound of pronunciation is consonant. Therefore ‘A’ is used.
उपरोक्त वाक्य में पहला अक्षर स्वर है लेकिन उच्चारण की पहली ध्वनि व्यंजन है। इसलिए ‘ए’ का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
Use Of ‘The’ – Definite Articles In Hindi
- It is used before a noun which is definite, special, that which has been discussed earlier. That’s why ‘The’ is also called a Definite Article.
इसका प्रयोग उस संज्ञा के पूर्व किया जाता है, जो निश्चित है, विशेष है यह जिसकी चर्चा पूर्व में की जा चुकी हो। ‘The’ को इसीलिए Definite Article भी कहा जाता है।
EXAMPLE
- I found a bag. The bag contained a coin. The coin was made of gold.
मुझे एक बैग मिला। बैग में एक सिक्का था। सिक्का सोने का बना था। - She brought a silk saree. The saree is very costly.
वह एक रेशमी साड़ी लाई। साड़ी बहुत महंगी है।
- In Sentence (1) firstly ‘a’ is used before ‘bag’, and afterward ‘the’ is used because this ‘bag’ has become predetermined, definite. Similarly ‘a’ is used before coin, followed by ‘The’, because now ‘coin’ is predetermined, definite.
वाक्य (1) मैं ‘bag’ से पूर्व सर्वप्रथम ‘a’ का प्रयोग किया गया है, बाद में ‘The’ का प्रयोग किया गया है, क्योंकि यह ‘bag’ पूर्व निर्धारित, निश्चित हो गया है। इसी तरह coin से पहले ‘a’ का प्रयोग किया गया है, बाद में ‘The’ का, क्योंकि अब ‘coin’ पूर्व निर्धारित, निश्चित हो चुका है। - In Sentence (2) Firstly ‘a’ is used before ‘saree’ and then ‘the’ is used with saree.
वाक्य (2) मे पहले ‘saree’ से पूर्व ‘a’ तथा बाद में ‘the’ का प्रयोग किया गया।
Parts Of The Body | शरीर के अंग
- The is used before the parts of the body.
‘The’ का उपयोग शरीर के अंगों से पहले किया जाता है।
EXAMPLE
- He was wounded in the arm.
वह हाथ में घायल हो गया था। - Ram hit him in the head.
राम ने उसके सिर में मारा।
Things That Are Unique | अनोखी वस्तुएं
- Things that are unique, the is used before them. Example – the sun, the earth, the world, the universe, etc.
जो चीजें अनोखी होती हैं, उनके सामने ‘The’ का इस्तेमाल किया जाता है। उदाहरण – सूर्य, पृथ्वी, संसार, ब्रह्मांड, आदि।
EXAMPLE
- The sun sets in the west.
सूर्य पश्चिम में अस्त होता है। - The earth revolves around the sun.
पृथ्वी सूर्य के चारों ओर घूमती है।
Religious Texts | धार्मिक ग्रंथों
- he is used before the names of religious texts.
धार्मिक ग्रंथों के नामों से पहले ‘The’ का प्रयोग किया जाता है। - The Ramayan, The Quran, The Bible, etc.
रामायण, कुरान, बाइबिल आदि।
EXAMPLE
- The Ramayan is a sacred book.
रामायण एक पवित्र ग्रंथ है। - The Bible is also a sacred book.
बाइबिल भी एक पवित्र ग्रंथ है।
